SSV/Car (4x4) Training

The completion of our SSV/4x4 training will result in a very competent, if not expert, driver/co-driver. The only formula to get better is get the correct training to be able to build the vital skills and knowledge that is required for the driver/co-driver to be able to address challenges easily. However, no one ever conquers the terrain to the extent that they have nothing to learn or that they cannot benefit from further coaching, advice and revision so on. It doesn’t matter if you are a seasoned driver or a novice. There is always room for improvement! The following modules are a brief introduction on what to expect when you kick off the training program with us.

  • Demonstration, Introduction and Assessment

You will be given an initial driving demonstration in our training area where the correct driving technique is explained and demonstrated while potential risks are pointed out. On completion of the demo session, you will have a good understanding of the basics and the situations you might face while driving.

Then, it will be your turn to go take the wheel behind our instructors lead/escort vehicle which makes an introductory route through the area which is specifically tailored to give a “gentle” introduction to you.

Based on your experience, our instructors will vary the level of such demands and technical driving ability, through careful “selection” of the track driven. At the end of the session, our instructors will have had enough information to know the areas that need development, and will use this information to customize a plan just for you!

  • Get to Work!

This session continues in the same manner but the difficulty is gradually ramped up to the extent that some of the most challenging situations are presented; but never before it is considered you can comfortably cope with it.

This session is normally following the Escort Vehicle but, if progress is promising, you may be encouraged to take the lead role and discover the not so obvious demands of having to choose your own “line”.

  • Take the lead!

You will now take the lead driver role and will be faced with a fresh new track through which you must drive choosing your own path. Initially, in order to build confidence, you will be allowed, and even encouraged, to be as circuitous in finding the least challenging path but, as the day progresses, you will be tasked with taking an increasingly aggressive approach to the technical situations presented, as would be the situation in a competitive event.

Correspondingly, the degree of severity of the terrain to be tackled is increased. Our instructors will be now relegated to a recovery role and will be quick to intervene and assist when confidence occasionally surpasses ability and you find your self in situations where you get stuck!

  • Push your Limits!

The session is aimed at pushing you to the extremes of your comfort zone while never exceeding that zone.

Initially, the Escort will lead, addressing some technical situations. Such technical challenges represent possibly the greatest challenge to be faced, combining good driving skills, an ability to read the terrain and the ability to make instant decisions and react quickly to the situations that present themselves in the unpredictable and deceiving ridges and bowls.

You will then be expected to lead through one or two of these challenges using the tracks of the previous attempts before attempeting a fresh new challenge in which you will have to call on everything that you learned previously.
